Technical re-equipment of control systems for 25-ton electric arc furnaces
Client:
PJSC "NLMK"
Year of Implementation:
2017
In recent years, specialists from Ural Engineering Center have modernized more than 17 steelmaking furnaces and units at metallurgical plants across Russia and the CIS.
A significant and labor-intensive project was completed at the Novolipetsk Steel Plant in 2017. As part of the project, Ural Engineering Center performed the following tasks:
- Replaced the furnace’s hydraulic system;
- Repaired the furnace’s hydraulic cylinders;
- Installed an independent pump station for electrode clamping drive and the working window door, operating on non-flammable HFC class hydraulic fluid;
- Installed thermal control sensors for the water-cooled furnace elements;
- Installed furnace shell temperature sensors;
- Installed and integrated sensors for melt temperature registration and argon feed into the furnace control system;
- Completely replaced the furnace control panels;
- Fully replaced the furnace control system and software.
The installed equipment includes all necessary elements to ensure a high level of reliability and safety.
The auxiliary systems for monitoring the parameters of water-cooled furnace elements and the furnace shell temperature increase the safety and reliability of the furnace equipment. During operation, the system continuously measures water temperature and monitors flow in the cooling circuits (18 circuits), and monitors the furnace shell temperature (24 points).
The universal, modular structure of the furnace control system and visualization system allows for easy expansion and integration with other systems and equipment within the furnace (weighing systems, burners, argon, oxygen).
The melting parameter control program provides:
- Fast response to handle charge collapse, short circuits, and arc breakage;
- Phase autonomy in regulation, minimizing mutual phase influence;
- Automatic arc ignition without electrode breakage;
- Minimal dead zone in the regulator;
- Smooth adjustment of the arc regulator settings;
- Regulation of parameters based on system impedance;
- Variable system gain depending on the electrical mode;
- Adaptive regulator control;
- Semi-automatic furnace operation according to a set schedule (directive mode).
When implementing furnace re-equipment projects, Ural Engineering Center takes into account all individual equipment features, production organization, and customer requirements.
